Having successfully upgraded half of the power station from coal to sustainably sourced biomass, in 2018, Drax Power Station generated 6% of the UK’s electricity and 12% of its total renewable electricity. In January 2018, Drax expanded its portfolio to include flexible, renewable and low carbon generating assets from pumped storage, run-of-river hydro and gas.  The asset acquisition included run-of-river hydro locations at Galloway and Lanark, Cruachan Power Station in Argyll and a biomass-from-waste facility, Daldowie, near Glasgow. As a result, Drax is capable of supplying power to 2 million homes in Scotland instantaneously.

Scottish Police Federation

The Scottish Police Federation (SPF) is the staff association that represents the interests of 99% of the police officers in Scotland. Often referred to at the police trade union the SPF has developed a formidable reputation and is consistently seen as the go to body by those want an honest insight into the health of the police service in Scotland. Known for their no nonsense, straight talking approach the SPF has delivered some of the most brutal assessments of the impact of austerity on the service to the public, as well as its own members. It is also often seen as the only voice standing up for the reputation of a much maligned service.
